I use inkjetstore.com - reasonable prices, free shipping...I've had one problem in 4.5 years (defective cartridge) and they replaced it immediately without hassle.

OK, I took the plunge. And it wasn't difficult at all. Of course the *glitch* (and there HAD to be at least one) was that the installation report said "scan driver failed to install". However, the little bugger was actually in there and it is WORKING. Phew

ROFL...too funny -

As I recall my installation wasn't bad at all - and all I've replaced on it so far is the toner - runs fine.

Go ahead - take the plunge!! You KNOW you want to!!...LOL

Good Luck!!

Hi Renee: No, I have Windows XP....after hours upon hours (or way it days?), HP tech reached the conclusion that the driver was trying to install before something else and timing itself out. Software glitch they call it.

So I exchanged it for the Brother all in one...it is sitting here staring at me, daring me to go ahead and install it. Send me some good vibes.......

Hey there, Treena

Do I remember right, is your cpu using Windows 7? If so, that might be the 'glich'. I had the same problem, a one-year-old HP all-in-one that couldn't talk nice with W7, no patches available ...had to buy a newer model.

Thanks for the input. May I ask, how easy the installation was? I'm pretty adept at installations but after this last fiasco, boy am I ever gun-shy!

Also, when you replace an HP cartridge, drum replacement is included. How often do you replace the Brother drum?

I have the Brother MFC 8460n - have had it for close to 3 years for the same purpose - faxing, copying and light printing (HP is my main printer) - works well for me and does the job...I paid around $300 for it and it was a good investment for me.

I am in the market for a new *all in one*. I set my sights on the HP1536...brought it home and spent 8 hours on Sunday and 2 on Monday trying to install in. Went through the OfficeMax Assurance program and Hewlitt Packard. On Tues, HP called me and said it was some sort of a software glitch that they will need time to repair.

So back goes the machine and I am left having to decide whether to take the HP 1212 (last year's model) OR the Brother 7840W. I am a HP gal, it's the only printer brand I've ever owned. I currently have 2 HP workhorses, this machine would only be for fax, scan, copy and light printing jobs.

Need opinions frrom current Brother printer owners. Know this machine? Easy installation? Pros...Cons?

Appreciate your feedback.
