I respectfully disagree on a couple of counts: 1) another notary directory has a star rating system (1-4 or 5 stars) where you can also leave a comment as to why that rating. It's very helpful in a pinch when there's no time to thoroughly read through various threads. It can be done. 2) Although I certainly agree that late/no pay is grounds for a bad review, it's definitely not the only grounds. Think of the times any agency/title co tried to use you as a scapegoat for something gone wrong and there you go.

I read the reviews at times - usually after a bad experience with a company to see if it is just me or a habit of the company. I have had great experiences with a few companies that people have complained about so I take the negative comments with a grain of salt. I think most people will expend more time and effort when they have a bad experience than they do when they have had a good experience. But, if one company continues to get bad reviews, then I know to beware.

There is no decent way to keep the signing company records updated daily. No computer database can interpret the opinions written on the forum. This can only be done by a human who knows the business. The old reviews on a company are fine. Tigers don't change their stripes so much. If you were a cheater in 2009, you will either be out of business or still a cheater in 2010.

The only time current reviews help, are with NEW companies of which there are only a handful, or with companies who only have a few review, and need more. Another issue is that good companies sometimes go bad, and that current reviews would help with that too.

In my honest opinion, our signing company review system will give you an accurate representation of what to expect from a signing company 95% of the time unless they are the exceptions mentioned above. For NEW information on companies, you can use the SEARCH function on the forums to see whats new.

What I also could do is to update the signing company list more frequently. There is no sense in doing it every month since its really time consuming, but once every several months might make sense.

Thanks for your inpu.

Thanks, Jeremy, for updating the company reviews. But this really is only helpful if it's updated consistently. Is it possible for 123notary to have some kind of automated process where ratings could be given and it would feed to the database to update automatically?

Hi Shannon,
These reviews on our review system have come in over the years. We do not have enough information from any particular year to give a comprehensive review. The reviews are very useful because the negative reviews are for companies that pay later than 60 days or not at all. Positive means fast pay and good experience, neutral is mediocre, while negative means there is a payment problem.

The only pit fall to our list, is that companies that used to be good, can turn bad if they encounter financial problems, and we have seen good turn to bad many times in the past. So, use precautions no matter what.

These reviews are helpful to neither users nor notaries who have paid for listings on 123 (a bit of a slap in the face to paid advertisers). I didn't want to see them introduced and I would be happy to see them go away. Because anyone can say anything, the value of such information is nil.

On the Signing Company List there are numbers by the "reviews" for each company, but is there some way to access these reviews? Who conducts the reviews and how often are they updated? I ask because when searching for one company in particular that has gained a lot of negative forum press, there was only a (1) by the negative review and (8) positives which us completely contadicted by all the negative comments.
