I introduced myself as an Independent Contractor/Field Representative for XYZ law firm. I didn't have to notarize their docs, but witness their signatures/initials on the application and some other docs. I was real skeptical the first time I had a call, but I made it clear to the company I will not take a check from the client for a "pre-pay". I have done several Mtge signings for NotaryPro and trusted them. Even though NotaryPro hired me, I was paid by the law firm. In the future, if they want you to take a check from the client, don't accept the job.

You DO realize that these in-home "sales" appointments are simply a means of skirting federal law - FTC has mandated that no fees are to be collected until the debt resolution is completed (in other words, no "up-front fees") However, the rules go on to state "However, the rules do not apply to in-person or Internet-only sales." Soooo...send the notary in (cuz people like notaries) and get them to do our sales pitch and we're good to go.

I, personally, don't like the idea of getting between anyone and their creditors. And IMO this is no better than those scammy loan modifications we heard so much about.

Late one evening, on my way back from a loan signing, I received a call to do this type of assignment: Fee $60. After getting a few details, I quoted my fee at $125. They agreed to it. But once I received detailed instructions on their email confirmation, I decided this job was not something I was willing to do, and emailed back immediately, for them to find a replacement.

The next morning I received 3 calls, while I was at another signing, asking me to call their office. I called back, and by then my email reply from the night before had been read. I explained this was not within the scope of work I was willing to do, nor was it notary related, and to please remove my name from their list. The Rep was polite and thanked me.

I received a call from them, but they insisted for me to introduce myself as their "sales representative" and not a notary. Red Flag! I graciously declined as I belief this would be unethical.

KC didn't 'recommend' it--just loaned out their database. Seems like a lot of time spent for the money, besides which, I don't want to be involved in these 'pay us to do what you can do yourself' deals.

Has anybody had any experience with the Debt Relief Center that KC Signing is recommending notaries work as an in-home sales representative for their debt relief program?
