These people will say anything when they desperately need you. They just agreed because they figured they had no choice at the time. Tine was of the essence. Now that the date has been moved they figure they can get it cheeper. So they start shopping. The problem with this is that the borrower ususally suffers ecaue they will most likely get an inexperienced notary. I bet it is one of those greedy signing companies?!

They probably think you charged them extra for a Friday night closing - if the agreed fee is your standard fee with no additional for night/weekend appointments then IMO it's still worth the original agreed fee and no, you should not take less. Especially in light of your travel - 2 hours one way? That's 4 hours just in travel with no other duties or troubleshooting taken into consideration - not to mention the fact that your entire day is being devoted to this one company and this one signing - you can't take any other work.

This, IMO is a $300+ closing. And as for "Does anyone else get this same thing from these signing companies" - yes, I've been asked, but if travel is over an hour away I refer them out to another notary in that area - in fact I help them find one on this site or on Notary Rotary - no money in the world is worth 4 hours in travel for me...but that's just me.

Good Luck.

I got a call for a closing almost two hours away for a last minute friday nite closing. I told them my fee and with a little bargining we agree upon a fee, then the closing moved to the following monday because the lender couldn't get the docs done. So the company tells me they are now only willing to pay 1/2 of the AGREED upon fee. WHY? From my view, this closing is the same amount of papers, still almost two hours away, and besides the date change is the same closing. They told me they would find someone cheaper and hung up. HOW RUDE! I am right? Does anyone else get this same thing from these signing companies?
