My son and I were in Yosemite for the 4th of July (and a few more days) in 2006. There were several notices about how busy it was going to be, especially the Half-Dome Hike. But, we were able to make good time and the trail traffic was very light all day on the 4th, including in and around the famous cables.

The National Park Service now requires permits for the Half-Dome hike that need to be obtained in advance for season weekends and holidays. They hoped to have the cables up this weekend, but have had to cancel the plans and invalidate the permits this weekend due to heavier than normal snows in the area.

The Yosemite area has always been one of the favorites of our family and we hope to return again - perhaps next year. This year we'll be home.

I'm posting this one early, because we will announce this post on Twitter in early July. Its fun to share your plans for special holidays. I want to go hiking, but am afraid that there will be a traffic jam in Yosemite. Someone needs to tell Yosemite that they need larger parking lots, and more of them. Everyone else in California has the same idea I do it seems.
