Notaries are given as you all know a commission #. This commission # is monitored by the office of the Secretary of State..perhaps, you can write or call. I'm sure that there is an agency that handles the database..

Many people email us and ask how to find a particular notary who notarized some papers for them long time ago. The only agency who will be sure to have this information are state notary divisions.

http://www.123notary.com/statecontact.asp

There are roughly 2,000,000 notaries in the United States, and no notary directory will have more than 10,000 at best, so don't ask us, ask the government agency that handles notaries from the state where the notary in question is/was commissioned.

If you just want to find "a" notary public, and nobody in particular, there are many notary directories online that you can use. Also, physical yellow pages are a great way to find someone local who will go to a hospital, office, or jail to help notarize some documents.
