Here is a radical idea. How about a "personable" company. Get the professionalism of a company name and the personability of an individual or small team or people? I analyze stats, and the stats tell me that company names are good. In the long run its really about what type of service you provide.

The advice I received when establishing my company was that it should reflect the expertise and service that you are offering. So, Smith's Notary Signing Agent Services might be a good choice for a dba. |

In 'personal' services, such as a Notary Public, I agree that a persons name is usually a good choice. However, a business name that includes the person's name is the best choice. That's why you see attorney offices use the names of the partners or senior partners.
When looking for a personal service, which would you be more inclined to choose first:
John Adams Notary Services California Notary Services Fast Signings, LLC
I submit that a business name that contains the person's name is the one that would receive more requests for notary service than the other two.
Another aspect of the marketing plan, should also consider email marketing strategies to those companies that you already have worked with as well as those you would like to work with. Effective email communication is an extremely important aspect of your campaign. You need to have your audience want to open and read your email, not simply toss it in the trash. David F. Carr, a Forbes' Business Intelligence columnist, has written an excellent piece on mass marketing using email; "Why should I open your email? - Tips for getting customers to read your messages." You can read his article at http://tinyurl.com/yef3bh6. This article not only addresses the email aspect, but does imply some very good information about choosing the correct company name.

In my experience, people like dealing with a person rather than a company. I get a lot of calls because people would rather connect with a human than an entity - they get intimidated by entities. Besides, a person is much more flexible and adaptable to their needs. I've had both a business name and use my personal name.
Jane Jones, Notary Public would get a lot more calls (IMHO) as I believe a person is more approachable than a business. |

Q. Should I get a company name for my notary or mobile notary business?
A. 123notary.com statistics show that notaries with a company name get around 17% more visits to their listing on 123notary.com than listings with a personal name. We are not sure if these notaries get more work becuase they are more professional, or merely because their image is more professional with a company name.
Name recognition is very important, so if everybody knows your personal name, and you suddenly use a company name instead, people will take some time to recognize your company name.
Company names should be registered with your county clerk. Keep your business legitimate and register your name. That costs money, but you can get into legal trouble for using a name which you are not legally entitled to, so be careful.
