Q. Can I affix my seal to any piece of paper or document?

A. No. The document must have text where the signer is mentioned. Notary certificate wording must either be embedded in the document or attached ( stapled ) on a loose certificate. The document must be signed by the signer(s) before any notary seal may be affixed. Then, the notary seal must go below the notary certificate wording, and the notary is supposed to fill out the wording and sign under the wording as well.

Do not affix your seal to a blank document or document lacking the necessary text and certificate wording. Additionally, do not notarize photographs by affixing your seal to the back of them. Notaries notarize statements, not photos. Ask the signer to write a statement about their photo and attach the photo to the statement.
