Some notary acknowledgment certificates have the option for the notary to record the capacity of the signer. A signer could be a president of a company, but sign as themselves as an individual, or in their capacity as president. Sometimes its critical to record what capacity they are signing under. A signer could be an attorney in fact for a particular individual, an officer in a company, or an attorney. Its always good to keep as much documentation as possible on all signers to have good paperwork.

Proving the capacity of an individual.
Sometimes its hard to know if someone really is authorized in a particular capacity at a particular company. The notary can always document if there is proof given of the individual's capacity. Remember, that you are notarizing a signature, and not a capacity.
