There are many bilingual notaries speaking every conceivable type of language from Arabic to Zulu, although Spanish is by far the most widely spoken second language in the United States. Some notaries are very proficient in their second language while others are not very competent at their second language. Its good to test a notary out to see if they can really function in their language at a loan signing.

Most people living in the United States who are getting a loan speak English, even if it is not their primary language. If you are notarizing documents for people from Iran, knowing Farsi might be fashionable, but not so necessary as they will most likely speak English or have someone who speaks English. Its when the signers really don't know English that you need a bilingual notary. Bilingual notaries get a bit more business than they would if they were not bilingual. However, if you are in an area where lots of borrowers speak only Spanish and there are no other bilingual signers around, you might get lots of extra business due to your language skills. How much extra business a bilingual signer gets is hard to say, but bilingual signers really come in handy when someone really needs one.
