Disagree - not every living thing deserves to be "saved". Some should be allowed to perish thru their own (unassisted) actions. IMHO this individual has neither the brains or ethics to be among us. And, I don't see it as my role to be doing missionary work for the greedy or inept. We should be "weeding out" the unfit, not saving them. Just to be perfectly clear: UNFIT does not include beginners (which we all were) - I target the greedy and the stupid.

My self personally would have told him a big fat NO and that he may want to read his handbook throughly before he got himself in BIG trouble. This is a very scary thing. He should have known better. Ken I understand you position but IMHO I dont think you telling him 'no' would fall under the category of 'unlawful practicing of law'.At the most you would have been doing him a big favor.

I agree with Paul. Just pointing out the law and where he can locate it himself would not be practicing law in any way. Not to mention, that as a Notary Public himself this is (should be) basic knowledge. |

With all due respect, Ken, telling the person "NO" and to check the Notary Public Law, ยง135-a. Notary public or commissioner of deeds; acting without appointment; fraud in office, would not be practicing law. You may actually be doing him a favor and protecting the office you hold.

I am a NY notary public.I oversee 4 <censored> stores in <censored> County and it has become more important for us to be notarizing documents. Is there any way that I can authorize my employees to use my stamp when I am not present?

I suggest you contact the county clerk where you were licensed and ask your question there.
