Believe it or not the 123 certification seal does bring the ones that have it more work. I have had many folks in the industry tell me that they do call those individuals first. The feel that they are getting the best qualified for the job. So It cant hurt you it can only help, For some of you it is free and even if you had to pay for it it is very reasonable (11.95) The results you will get from it make it a no brainer. Plus unlike the NNA once certified with us you never have to take the test again...so just do it!!

I believe that my 123 elite status certification has helped my customers know with assurance that they are selecting a seasoned knowledgeable notary. Many clients report to me that they only use certified notaries.
One of the best things that you can do for yourself is to always answer your phone.
I picked my order to present the documents and I still follow that advice today. However instead of changing the order of documents in the package, I place a yellow sticky on the right side of the document so it sticks out. This saves me time in having to put the package back into the order received.
At my first closing, I took a water bottle with a lid on it. I place the water bottle on the floor (always-no spills, no regrets). When I found myself nervous, I took a sip and told myself RELAX and took a deep breath. This helped me.
If you are unsure how to write your profile here on 123, they have a nice tool to assist you.
I do hope you have a Happy 1st Signing!

123notary has a marketing course for a very low price. Just visit the loan signing courses page. These days, marketing yourself on notary website directories is the most effective. Yellow pages are getting phased out as even the least techno-savvy people are online these days. Please email me at info@123notary.com for more customized tips and advise, thanks.

I was nervous too on my first signing. You just have to get through it. It gets easier each time - since you are already familiar with loan docs you should be fine. Remember, most borrowers have no clue about loan docs. I just stack the most important ones first:
HUD NOTE FIRST PAYMENT LETTER INITIAL ESCROW ACCT DISCLOSURE TIL RTC DOT/MORTGAGE REMAINING DOCS
Others may have a slightly different order that they prefer. I usually put the title docs in the back because often the borrowers must complete a lengthy owners aff and while they're doing that, I check the docs to make sure we didn't miss a signature, initial, or date. If I don't have the opportunity to do that (sometimes the owners aff is not lengthy) then I will take a moment at the end to review the package. If you're new, check it twice before you leave. Check as they hand the docs back to you as well.

My other worry is when my first signing comes. I think I'll be nervous. I don't want it to show when I'm sitting at the table with the borrower(s). |

Concur with Copperhead. I'm coming back to the business after being away for 9 years and the biggest stumbling block is knowing the docs; which is primarily what the certification courses teach you. I sent for the Certification course because I have NOT been in the mortgage business. YOU are the other hand already know the docs so you;ve got the tough part done! |

Personally, I don't think that certification is necessary in this business, especially if you already have a mortgage background. List yourself on this website and pay for as high a listing position as you can afford, and also pay to list yourself on NotaryRotary - you should get some calls. Reach out to your mortgage contacts for marketing.

Hi Everyone ... I'm currently working on getting certified to do loan signings. I need advice on how to get started. I do have a mortgage backround. I use to be a loan processor so I'm familiar with the docs. Any advice on how to market myself will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Ari |
