I know you will think I am an idiot but did you file in small claims court or go through an attorney to start collection? In answer to your comment about working for companies with a reputation. I started working as a signing agent full time in January. I have been doing it part time but for only one company. I didn't know Fox was so negligent.

When Notaries act like a business and start collection proceedings on the 61st day of non-payment, going after all who have benefited from their notarial services - loan officer, lender and title company, then SS will straigten up their act AND Title Companies will think twice about working with SS's that don't pay their subcontractors.
Notaries should not be saying "So & So Signing Service owes me from January 08, or December 08, or February 09, or June 09." The 61st day of non-payment is when Notaries should go after a company who has not honored their agreement with them. Also, like the other poster said, Notaries should turn down assignments from companies with a lousy payment record. JMHO |

You asked, "Why can't notaries have enough power to stop this?" Well, we do and can. Simply refuse to accept assignments from services that have a bad repuatation. That's what I do.

Fox Signing Service has disconnected their phone.
I am owed money from two closings in May, 2009.
I called the title company who hired these idiots and they told me they stopped using them because they were not paying their notaries.
I found out they cashed the check so they were paid for my fee.
Why can't notaries have enough power to stop this.
