I've noticed now whenever I initially enter this forum, it appears in the 'string' format. Personally, I'd rather have it in the 'indexed' format, but that's a personal decision. Granted it's not too difficult to switch it back to the original format, but would be nice if the user had the option of which format to open in. There are already lots of cookies used by this site, adding the format preference or "last format used" to the cookie shouldn't be that difficult.

Have not tried it yet, but apparently the new version of the Firefox browser has a spell checker built in. I may have to try it. |

I agree with the others that the "Active Topics" feature on 123Notary is great - I use it all the time! However, so much of the time there are no active topics!

The best format for me is notaryrotary.com. You can search by message number and it's the one most notaries are use to using. Jeremy, if I were you I would do a message board very similar to theirs.

I prefer to use the "Active Topics" feature and appreciate the ability to reset that feature to a different time and date. Either the string or the index format is fine with me so long as there is a way to know which posts have been added since the last visit.
The "active topics" takes you to the index default mode. If the default was changed, hopefully there would be a way to view which posts had not been viewed before in some way (ie: changing color or font or some such method).
One problem with the string mode is that folks tend to want to ask the same frequently asked questions as the one asked yesterday, and every week since the forum was first started. While it may be good that the posts are made for some purposes, it drives folks away that are looking for “fresh” information. Even with this index mode, you'll still see entries from new folks that just want the basics: how do i take over other notary’s workload, how do i do a notary, what do i charge for doing one how do i collect my $35 from sox and so on. At some point, most seasoned notaries see all those frequently asked questions as clogging up a potentially good forum and will more frequently visit one that limits or points new notaries to a different area for reviewing the same old, but educationally sound, stuff. |

I prefer this forum format to Notary Rotary's. I get lost on their forum, but then again, it doesn't take much for me to get lost.

Granted, when viewing a post in detail, you can't tell, but with the indexed method the icon indicates whether or not there are new posts in a forum and which topic (thread).

I don't think I really have a preference, it's 6 of one, half-dozen of the other. The index is visually more pleasing, but the topic headings are so subjective that they're kind of meaningless and mostly disregarded. If the headings were more concise and there were LESS of them, perhaps people would actually pay attention.
I always use the "Active" filter to see all the new posts, and that's a feature I love. |

This is interesting. Carmen assured me that everybody would love the string format, while all three responses so far have not been crazy about it. Maybe the people using our forum regularly like index and that is why they come?

In any case, we will keep BOTH formats, its just a question of which should be the default. If string is the default in the future, you can click on INDEX FORMAT or active topics and still get index. I prefer index too, but string is more popular in the world these days.

I forgot to add, there is no indication in the string format, which posts have been read and which are still unread.

As it stands, I like the index format better. However, if the string format allowed threads to be collapsed, I would probably prefer it. Right now, to move from one thread to another, on the string format, you have to scroll and scroll and scroll some more.

My personal opinion - I prefer the Index format. I could probably get used to the string format providing the posts remain in order. Hope the string format doesn't work like GMN - I like reading posts in order, like following a continuous discussion - GMN strings are all over the place.

Hi Everyone, 123notary tied up its programmers for months creating the programming for the new STRING format which is somewhat similar to how Notary Rotary organizes its forum content. The old way we had was the index format with the various sections of the forum ( free for all, ask carmen, etc. ). Which format do you like better?
Which format should we use for the default? Index, or String? Progrramming says it will be hard to customize, so we need to decide.

Tips for using the forum
The most important feature on the forum is the search box. You can look up a particular word, phrase, name of a company, and see a potentially large list of search results with which you can obtain data. Filters are also valuable. If you want to find popular posts, you can use the number of views filter. You can also see whats new with the active topics link. Email us at info@123notary.com if you need any help using the notary forum.
Resources
The notary public resource page is valuable as it has links to all of the free information pages for notaries. Pages linked to the resource page include a page that teaches you everything you need to know to get the most out of your listing. Another page teaches you all the secrets of getting paid. There is a link to our free list of signing companies. There is also a glossary, learning tools, and much more.
If you are a notary, the free tips we give are invaluable.
Popular pages
If you visit 123notary.com often, you might want to visit some of our most popular pages such as the California notary, Texas notary, Florida notary, and New York notary pages to browse the site.
