According to the Scty of State Notaries Statute: SECTION 26-1-90. Powers generally. A notary public may administer oaths, take depositions, affidavits, protests for nonpayment of bonds, notes, drafts and bills of exchange, acknowledgments and proof of deeds and other instruments required by law to be acknowledged and renunciations of dower and perform all other acts provided by law to be performed by notaries public. That said, I still do not know if notaries in SC can witness 2nd mortgages, refi, equity line, etc. Need clarification please...anyone? Thanks!

Please show me where it states that only an attorney can do a closing in SC and that a notary can't do it.
Show me. I'm trying to find it and I don't see it. |
