I have an HP 4100TN - attached via Ethernet. It's about 20 pages per min and has dual bins that take a full pack of paper. It's been a trouble free workhorse for the past 6 years with virtually no jams.

TIP: Buy from a dealer that has a laserjet tech. PAY for an additional hour of the tech's time to have them "tune" the machine to perfection. That is what I did and my machine is more dependable than the rotation of planet Earth.

Ya get what ya pay for.............

Thanks Linda...I might look into it - problem is my husband's not sure about taking printers apart..

This printer had been down for a couple months because there was a paper jam way in back - one little piece of paper that flat refused to move - after listening to him tell me he knows nothing about printers, and not wanting to pay the shop $65 for a paper jam, I finally figured what the heck - it's not working anyway so let me see what I can do - and *I* got it taken apart, unjammed and reassembled myself!!

Maybe one of these days I'll get ambitious and try taking the front apart again - it may just be another small piece of paper..not sure...for now the lower tray does work so at least it's back earning it's keep!!

Linda, I have two HP 2430tn's. They both started having problems picking the legal paper properly, so my husband went onto the HP site and ordered a set of pick rollers for each printer (he figured that he might as well replace the pick rollers for all the paper trays at the same time). He installed them and both printers are working great again! You should look into that for yours.

I did a signing Saturday and did not reset my PDF print so it reduced the mortgage to smaller font - had to run back and redo the mortgage - just as a note to all, be careful NOT to reduce the size of the font on mortgages or Quit Claim Deeds, they will not be able to be recorded. Any helpful hints anyone wants to throw out is always appreciated.

Thanks for your comments. I use a dual tray now, but it is old and may need to be replaced soon. An option of going all legal might make sense.

Thanks.

All legal, though easier, is much more expensive - and may not be acceptable to the lender/title company/hiring party.

I have a HP 2200dn that I bought over 4 years ago on e-bay - I feed legal into the bottom tray, letter into the upper drop-down tray - it auto-selects paper size...poor baby's getting really tired and the rollers for the upper tray are not pulling the paper correctly right now but I've more than gotten my money's worth out of it..

The investment in a dual tray, rather than printing all legal all the time, will probably pay off in the long run...

My first year or so in the business I used my 10 yr old Digital Brand Laser printer. I used the envelope tray for feeding legal paper in. I put a clipboard in the bottom of the tray so it would hold legal paper and I was able to stack 50 or more pages there and print like mad. It was slow, 2 papes per minute. If you configure print options correctly and set the PDF print dialogue box so that it chooses paper size per pdf paper size, or something like that, it will work fine. I picked up an HP 4 Plus at a rumage sale for about 20 bucks and that worked better. Still only 1 tray, but I used the envelope tray for legal paper and it printed faster than my other printer, though still slow. Finally, this summer I spent some bucks and got a HP 2420 and really like it. Its fast. I ordered with the extra tray for legal size paper and I'm glad I did. It will print legal size loan docs at about 13 pages per minute. Of course, it does letter size docs much faster. Now I can schedule more signings that are closer together and it's not quite the hassle if docs come riht before the appointed signing time. I'll still be late when docs are emailed to me an hour after the signing is scheduled to take place.

Sometimes the best places to go for laserprinters are the less well known stores who specialize in office equipment that you can find in the yellow pages. Big outfits like office depot etc. don't specialize in printers and have less selection of dual tray printers although you can try them too.

Right now I have a little HP laser printer that I love, but when I get edocs (which is 90% of the time), I hate having to go through the docs page by page to print it on the right size paper. My question is can anyone recommend a good quality, but not too expensive dual tray laser printer? Thanks!
