You really need to have a laser printer, even when first starting out. Not only is inkjet ink way too expensive (you would go through it like crazy when printing loan docs) but it also smears when it gets even slightly wet. Companies would likely not call you again if you sent back docs printed on an inkjet.
Do a search on this and other notary chat sites for printer recommendations, and look on EBAY for a good used laser printer. Sometimes stores like Staples and Office Depot clear out their old stock for 1/2 off the original price.

This is merely my own opinion and my own decision, but I do not and would never put any loan package on any computer other than my own, including sending it to Kinko's (or anywhere else) to be printed.
I flat-out admit it, I'm a control freak, but you will NEVER read my name in the paper because someone's financial papers were found in a dumpster, or their identity was stolen off a forwarded e-mail that went way-ward, or maybe a thumb-drive I accidentally left on some counter ...
I just 3 minutes ago posted something about how the world is not full of dogs that bite and bees that sting, so this might seem a little conflicting or hypocritical of me - but to me, doing your own printing is fundamental to being a signing agent, and having a laser printer is not an option but a necessity. There are vendors that send docs to Kinko's - but the onus is on them, when THEY do it.

I started out without a laser jet and would go to Kinkos, pull up my email there and print on their printer. I work at Fedex though and got a big discount on the printing, sometimes I wouldn't even have to pay, so I don't know how cost effective it is to do it this way. But you have to just get in there and do it and if that is what you have to do, then do it to get started. Just keep the receipts from Kinkos and you can put that towards your business expenses for your taxes. Keep an eye out for sales on laser printers and get one, you have to have one to do this job efficiently.

Has anyone here started without the use of a laser printer? Are there any good companies that would overnite the docs rather than doing edocs? |
