Proficiency is not the only company who doesn't pass on all the information a notary needs to price a job. I did a closing about 40 miles from my office on 11/2/08 indicated as a refi, but was in fact a reverse. I accepted the fee they offered because I would be in that area on other business, and I was told it was a refi.
My rate for a reverse is higher because it's in effect two loans, and the borrowers are usually older, more cautious signers--more time to spend to get the paperwork done.
Unfortunately, I don't think the signing companies are asking the title or lending companies who hire them what the job really is. With all the changes and new packages that will be coming out after the bailout, I think it would be in everyone's best interest to get as much information as possible up front. That way everyone can price the jobs correctly.

I did a signing for Proficiency Signings that I really wish now I wouldn't have done as it looks like, from reading here after the fact, I may not get paid. Regardless, I called the borrower to confirm the signing which was showing a Mr and Mrs. Mr tells me that his wife died last month. I was shocked. I called Proficiency and they "seem to recall seeing that somewhere, but it should be fine". When I get the loan docs to see if Mrs's name is on them I find docs for a reverse mortgage. These are specials that should be announced when the job is being placed with a notary not questions you have to ask. I saw her name on the title docs only and called the Title company who told me to just disregard her name being there.....you've got to be kidding me. So many red flags and for some reason I went ahead and did the job because I had accepted it. Mr gave me a certified copy of his wifes death certificate and I did no scratching out and just left her signature line blank. I am really hoping I get paid for this and I will NEVER take another job from Proficiency Signings. I don't like dishonesty and I don't like secrets that make you feel like your being swindled.
