When I receive a new assignment from a "signing company" and the "clues" are there for "fly by night" I ask for payment in advance. There is a handy credit card processor on my site - it's EZ to use!
But, but, but, they stammer - "I pay after you do the work".
Well, you prepay for a McDonald burger, and for admission to a movie.
Also, if you look at my site - I am Better Business Bureau, have my home address, home phone, and lots of other integrity data, etc. You are just a phone number and a PO box - based on the above - which of us is more credit worthy? I lose a few, but get shafted by none.

Some TIL's incorporate the Itemization of Amount Financed in them which could be where it would be listed also. Maybe that is what is being referred to?

To become a signing company, you need relationships with lots of title companies. Its not so easy for them to get clients. Many do part of the signings themself and are always driving around.
You have to be very careful who you work for as a notary. Many companies will take advantage of you. Please research all companies who want to hire you by visiting our list of reviewed signing companies, using the search function on this forum, and using any other notary forums that have a quantity of information.

So what does it take to become one of these "signing companies?" The owner of one of the "companies" that I had the misfortune of dealing with seemed to always be driving in his car and using his Blackberry. It seems to me that you need to convince title companies that you will make the calls, get the notaries, the notaries do the work and you get the money. I recently dealt with someone just like this. He made the phone call to me (that I could barely understand) sent me an email, but eventually I found out that I didn't get everything (of course blame the notary for that) he got $350, he lied and told me that he only got $200 from the title company and would split it with me, but the TIL said otherwise. The guy was really flaky. So is this some kind of get rich scheme? Collect the money from the title company and screw the notary who does the work? |
