This is why we shouldn't be lowering our fees, not even for the 'good' ones. We should not be lowering our fees especially due to the risks involved. I really want the SS and TC to really think about what our job entails, as well as for the consequences should the need for litigation arise.

Ditto Claudia...I have been sayings this for years now. But until notaries value themselves, the work they do and their time and start refusing these low ball fees..this will not change.

I know it is customary now to pay a notary very little for a job. But who is legally responsible for that job. Who is going to go to court if a loan doc is taken to court. The notary for one. Who pays for the expenses of that trip. If you make an error are you really covered? Who is watching out for your back? will the signing company or title company be there to back you up if you get called into court for a signing. And what about a Heloc. A Heloc in texas must be done in a lawyers office or a title company. I have a lawyers office that I can use and I have not been asking much for those loans but because of the legal ramifications of those loans my fee for them will now increase substantially. We all need to realize the importance of our jobs and the legal ramifications of our jobs and understand we are needed valuable part of the loan signing process and our fees should be much higher.
