An ex California Notary Public goes to West Hollywood for Thai food. There is nothing wrong with a little pad-zee-woo, and border beef, right? Wrong!
The sign on the meter said: Meters enforced Monday to Saturday from 8am to 2am the following day. I was there on a Sunday at 8pm.
I went and had dinner for 45 minutes. I return to my car to find a ticket. Huh? The sign said that meters were not enforced on Sundays! So, I read the ticket Parked on grates -- wheels straight. So, then I looked around for additional signs. There was a sign stating that you need to turn your wheels on that street. There was a slight incline, but not enough to merit turning your wheels in my conservative opinion.
I read the sign & was NOT in violation of it Since I read the sign on the meter, I didn't read other signs DOWN THE STREET. I was lead to believe by the meter sign, that I knew all that was necessary to be known. Only part of the rules were stated in the place I looked. Had they announce the wheel turning rule in that place, I would have known what to do.
I was fined $23 Although meters were not stated to be enforced on Sundays, I was still givin a citation for parking without turning my wheels. I guess, technically, that has nothing to do with the meter, although it happened in front of a meter, and the City of West Hollywood parking enforcement division was still the department involved in giving me the citation.
Intentional trickery I feel that the City of West Hollywood INTENTIONALLY places partial information on their signs so that they can trick unsuspecting guests from out of town into failing to turn their wheels so they can fine us. It is not illegal for them to fine us, since it is our responsibility to know the law. However, I feel I can prove INTENTION to cheat us, since they are deceiving us by placing incomplete information in the sign that we would see first -- hence discouraging us from looking further to see where the complete information is.
Partial information on signs caused the problem Had they not had a mini-sign on the meter telling me their fraudulent hours of enforcement (which are very different from their actual hours of enforcement), I would have been forced by common sense to walk 50 feet to see the signs that were in the tree branches that told their complete collection of nitpicky, bizarre and unnecessary rules.
West Hollywood engaged in a scam operation Therefor, I claim that the City of West Hollywood is engaged in a scam operation and fraudulent meter enforcement by putting incomplete information that leads them to be able to trick guests who came with the intention of being law obiding.
Posting complete information: my proposed solution I feel that the City of West Hollywood should post signs indicating that you should turn your wheels right on each meter. It is such a bizarre rule, that it should be made evident.
West Hollywood endangering the community Additionally, if it is so dangerous to park your car without turning your wheels, why do they trick you into not seeing the sign that indicates you should turn your wheels. I feel that the City of West Hollywood is endangering the public by not giving clear instructions about turning your wheel. My car could have rolled down the hill and killed someone purely because of the neglegence and trickery of the City of West Hollywood.
Legal action? Maybe I should take legal action against the City of West Hollywood. It is not right of them to endanger the public and defraud innocent visitors, is it? |
