Definition 1:
Notaries must take an oath of office before receiving their notary commission. The paperwork for their oath must be filed with the county clerk where their commission is based.

Definition 2:
The notary must raise their right hand and swear under oath before another notary public and swear to faithfully discharge their duties as a notary public and uphold the law during their term.
