Notary Handbook

A notary handbook is a manual that is intended to guide a notary through all of the basic notary procedures in their state. Most notary handbooks or manuals are issued from the notary division or secretary of state of the state where the particular notary is commissioned. Basic notary fees, notary procedures, notary acts, and notary commission information are discussed in the notary manual. Common notary issues discussed in a notary handbook might include who is eligible for a notary commission, applications, and notary acts such as Acknowledgments, Jurats, Oaths, Affirmations, Protests, as well as Notary Journals and Seals. Other issues discussed may include renewal procedures, as well as information about notary bonds and filing a notary's Oath of Office with the county clerk, or other duly authorized government office.
