Appointment

Each state in the United States appoints individuals to become notaries. Some states require a test, while others require involving background checks. One appointed to be a notary can not be designated a signing agent by the state. However, a notary can study to become a signing agent by enrolling in a signing agent class.

Definition 1:
An appointment is the act of designating an individual for an office or position. The Secretary of State or notary division of a particular state could appoint an individual to become a Notary Public which is an example of how to use the verb form of the word appointment.

Definition 2:
Another usage of the term appointment in a notary context, is when a notary agrees to schedule notary work with a signer at a particular time.
