Become an Oregon notary public
A three hour course and exam is required for Oregon notary applicants. Classes are offered by the
Secretary of State and other vendors who are certified by the Secretary of State. Oregon does not
require its notaries public to be bonded or to have liability insurance. The Certificate of Education
will be emailed to you within 2 business days of completing the test and the 3 hour tutorial
requirement. There will be a Notary Education Identification number will be on the certificate. You
will need that number on your Oregon notary application. Notary applications take about two weeks to
process. Once your commission is approved you will receive a Certificate of Authorization to request
the manufacturing of your notary seal. To be a notary in Oregon, you must have a notary seal and
journal which you can purchase on your own.
