Depends on a number of things. Just starting out with no track record starting at $70 - $80 may be a good start. Once you get around 75 signed, the better ones will start considering you. (after about 75, they figure that you know what you are doing since they do not have time for you to learn on their dime) After 250, you can start picking who you will answer the phone from.

What is your market like? How many agents in a 35 mile radius? How many live in that area 50K or 750K? How is the area doing? In my area within 35 miles I have a lake with very nice homes.(lots of business). Also to the south a county with the highest unemployment rates in state. (not much business there)

When dealing with a new company never low ball your self. I ask them what they will offer first. If it is to low say so. The good ones will work with you on a fee. Starting out you may need to start with The Golbal Notary/Nations Direct type of companies. Once you get going, you can cut them off when you start dealing with the good ones.

I am new in the business but NNA certified. This question may be better answered by an Illinois notary or anyone with information. Even though we are independent contractors is 80 to 90 dollar fees the norm? From reading posts it seems west coast and east cost notaries get paid a lot more from signing companies. The fee mentioned is for everything a notary does.
