I don't know what companies have been giving you a hard time, but my .02 FWIW:

1. The companies MUST accept your EIN - that EIN is tied to your personal SS number when you file your return - they HAVE to take it I have to say if you're running into objections about that then it's from companies who have no clue.

2. I don't provide a copy of my DL "for security reasons". If they insist I send a copy with all the PII blacked out - how much good that does them I'm not sure but they accept it.

3. In my experience, most companies that require BGC's want them to be under 2 years old. Not sure why as the BGC is only good on THE day it's reported - anything after that is up for grabs.

4. In signing up with companies, if I've gone through the process and THEN get to the fee part and realize the fees are too low for me I just continue - if it gets them to call me at least I can then quote my true fee or reject the assignment. At least my name's there, right?

Don't give up if you really want to do this. You have to stick with it. And signing up is a daily process...keep finding new companies to get your name on the list. Things will get better.

Good luck.

Hi, I've been a notary for a year and done about a dozen signings. I've tried to follow the advice on several forums by checking the reputations of SS's and trying to sign up. I got so frustrated I've about given up. I tried to sign up with the better rated one's and most often find they want way too much personal info (DL?), another BG, over two years exp, won't accept my EIN, want me to agree to low ball fees, etc. It is frustrating to create an ID and PW and twenty minutes later after slogging through their twenty pages of signing up find it a waste of time as I don't qualify, must agree to low ball fees, etc.
