If they have many notaries who will accept these fees, why are they calling you? Put it to the test, just say 'no'.

I have been a NNA Certified and Background Screened Notary Signing Agent since 2009. I love being a notary, I enjoy meeting the people, being home when my kids get home from school, also the freedom that I have being able to make my own schedule. Lately I have been experiencing a trend "lowering fees". Signing companies seem to feel they can pay us notaries crumbs for our very needed service. Lenders, escrow officers, title companies and appraisers are not getting paid less, so why are the fees of "LICENSED" professional notaries that give a very valuable service being lowered. I feel these companies that have the audacity to lower their fees to $45.00 for a full loan package do not repect the notary industry. I feel they're lowering their fees because they feel they simply can and get away with it. They take advantage of us notaries by telling us "if you don't lower your fees you won't get any more calls, because we have other notaries in your area that will do the work for $45.00". There needs to be a law that mandates the amount notaries are paid for loan docs. Loan docs are different then 1-3 page documents where you would get $10.00 per signature. A full loan document package takes more time, gas, paper and ink. Another problem that needs to be dealt with, is for some reason there are to many companies out there that think it's alright to pay 45-60 days after the signing is completed. This is a "PROFESSIONAL BUSINESS" and needs to be treated like a professional business. Everyone else gets paid as soon as escrow closes, but us notaries are made to wait. I am in no way saying all signing, escrow or title companies function like this, I work with some companies that treat my services with the utmost repect and are a pleasure to work with. Unfortunately there are far to many companies out there that are not paying a fair amount for our services and paying entirely to slow. Thank you for listening K. Spencer, California
