I live in a very rural area - so rural they won't even pick up from me!! I don't think we even have FedEx or UPS drop boxes in my town of 550 people.
I don't use drop boxes - too dangerous and too much left to chance. My fee quoted includes dropping the package off at an authorized shipper. Yes, sometimes it's an additional 30 miles rt, but the security and peace of mind is worth it and that service is taken into account when I quote my fees.

In the past, pickup charges could be billed to the receiver. New UPS rules now state this charge will be billed to you, the shipper. |

As a follow up to add on to what Lee said, you can also continue to have the pickups but just raise your fee by $10 or whatever it costs to have the pickup done. Then be sure to keep all your UPS/FedEx bills so you can deduct it as an expense when doing your taxes.

Waaay back in the 90s, companies didn't care about the 'extra pickup charge'. They do now. So start dropping those packages and factor your time/mileage to do that into the fee you quote as it's an expense factor--just like edocs are.

Pick-up fees have been around almost as long as UPS and FedEx have been in business. Drivers have a route they must follow to meet pick-up times at designated locations and businesses that do a lot of business. If a vehicle needs to be dispatched to your home or re-routed to pick-up a package, there is usually a fee associated with the pick-up. It is nothing unusual.
For those packages paid for by lenders and title companies, many of them are stating that the packages must be dropped of at a designated pick-up spot, e.g., collection box, authorized shipper or company owned store (FedEx Office, UPS Store). Why? They were getting stuck with a $10+ pick-up charge.
