Become a Montana notary public
You must submit a notarized Montana notary application, statement, and oath of office, pay a $25 filing
fee, and have a $10,000 surety bond to apply to be a Montana notary public. Montana notary applications
are available at most insurance offices, and on the state notary division website as well. You may also
call the notary division at 406-444-5379. Please write your name on your application exactly the way you
want it written on your notary commission. After you are approved, you will be sent a Montana notary
handbook and you must then purchase a Montana notary seal from a stationary or printing store. Your name
must be identical on your notary seal and commission paperwork. The seal must also include the words,
"notary public" or "notarial seal" , "State of Montana". You must use your seal each time you perform a
notary act by affixing it to the notary certificate wording area of the document or certificate. You can
also consult the state notary division website for information about getting training to be a notary.
