Yes Linda, I agree with you. I asked my question because the OP made statements about printing, faxing and mileage and the fee amount, that caused me to think they had been facilitating mortgage loan signings and now something that's a cash deal.
I hope Bonbonely will reply. |

Hi Doris - that was why I asked what types of signings. Yes, GA is an attorney-only state - a decision rendered in or about 2003, and reaffirmed, with stricter parameters, in 2013. However, what I *am* unclear on is whether this applies to signings for properties outside GA or if it pertains only to properties located within GA. For transactions affecting real estate within GA, only an attorney can conduct them. The Bar and the statutes are strict and clear on this issue. And telephone presence does not satisfy this requirement - the attorney must be actively involved.

Isn't Georgia an Attorney only state for mortgage loan signings? I'm not sure if a cash closing falls into the same category, but this is something that you should know. If you don't know, then you should be checking this all out right now before you're charged with some serious stuff.

Now, back to your subject. If the company agreed to your fee during the initial phone call then that's what they are to pay you. They can't change the amount of the fee after you've done the work. It really doesn't matter what type of work you do, whether it's painting a house, plumbing the pipes, notarizing documents or facilitating a loan signing, the amount of the fee should not be changed unless both parties agree to the change.
Before you accept any new work, it would be to your benefit to work up a business plan which includes determining the cost of doing business and what your profit needs to be in order to stay in business. You can get free help through Score, which is part of the Chamber of Commerce. Start with Linda's suggestion about the notary fees and whether or not you can charge for travel if you plan to be a mobile notary public.

I was wondering if someone could give me a general fee list for any and all types of signings, as well as excessive mileage, printing, faxback and whatever else. I'm very new to this and really need some kind of guide line. I'm only asking for estimates of whatever the going rate is around here. I've searched but just come up with posts about people arguing over low balling and so on. Please someone give me some idea, I've completed 6 signings so far and my last one, they offered $125 and of course I jumped all over it, but when I sent my invoice she said, "What? This was a cash closing, with only a few docs, why are you charging so much, we normally pay 50-60." I told her I had no idea, but that's what I was offered, she said "well I will adjust your profile to state your fees and send you a check". I said wait a minute that isn't my fee, that's what I was offered.
