Hello,
I am not a public notary, but I am pursuing becoming one to finance my advance education. I want to go to law school and simply can't afford it without a job. If I got an assignment that pays $75-150, I would be really happy.
And yes, in fact I heard it from a notary customer where I work. The man made $200 just for doing a signing. I looked into it and found it as something I could do.
But it is really hard getting into this field, forum members aren't that helpful. Maybe they see newbie notaries as a threat. Maybe they never received any help from no one, who knows.
And sorry for being out of topic, I simply hate to see a questions not answered.

I've been watching a lot of forums lately and the amount of, or lack thereof, knowledge in how to do general notarizations amazes me. Of course every state has its rules, living in CA I think we have some of the strictest ones, which to my mind is a good thing.
But, I wonder based on questions asked, why some people choose to become notaries. Was it to really be a signing agent and all the "glory" that comes with that position? Was it because they "heard" you can make extra income? Did your boss make you do it?
The old adage "there are no stupid questions" just does not apply to notarial work. I "believe" all states have rules and regulations on doing notarizations, and yet, questions asked leave me to believe that many "notaries" have never read them.
Of course the DMV offers rules and regulations and based on the driving out there, its CLEAR people don't have a clue. But being a notary can leave you wide open to legal issues - why would you do a job with these consequences without knowing how to keep yourself safe? Do you think having E&O insurance will save you? Do you even have E&O?
And finally, which states say that a marriage license is a good form of ID? Because I've seen responses that say - check their marriage license to see if they are who they say they are - huh?
