No problem with short pays here in Florida. I would take this action, the day the payment comes in short call and tell them you want to fax them the invoice and the payment to confirm that it is correct because it is short. Call them the day the check comes and ask if you need to "collect the balance from the borrower or Title Company I have both their numbers here in the file" I used that line one time to collect from a signing company that was late paying me.

Can anyone tell me what is going on with signing companies shorting payments due? I have had two companies I have worked with many times in the past, short my fees by 10 bucks on several signings. I was talking with other notaries in VA that has had the same problem as of late. One of these in the past who is always swamped with signings and never has had a "no pay" in over three years, has recieved shorted payments just in the last two months. Has someone in the lending industry made a decision to make this standard operation proceedure? We aren't talking about one or two companies here, we are talking dozens! If this was being done by the same one or two companies that would be a different subject but for this practice to be just recently so wide spread, it must be a concerted effort among many companies. I for one, am considering to be paid off the HUD-1 or charge additional administrative fees if a company does this. Anyone know if that is legal to do? Just seems strange so many companies would do this just out of the blue.
