Posted - 11/13/2013 : 5:25:50 PM I was asked to do a I-9 verification by remote. Fee was very low but I accepted after 3rd request. The signing Co. N3 solicited the job then after I finally accepted stated they needed all my info pkg. I sent everything over. Made appointment with employee, then in looking over the file noticed they had a form called Remote Hire Agency Form. An I-9 does not require Notarization. Anyone can complete the I-9 for the employer. The Signing Co already had my PKg with all my information, copy of commission,ID#,E&O,Bond etc. The Form was listing my name,a notary as agent for employer. Then a place for me to sign and then list my Commission #,Date of exp. State of Commission etc. I notified N3 that I would only do the job if listed as Agent Represenitive. Not in the capacty as a Notary. They became irritated with me stating "Out of hundreds of people doing this for them I am the only one who has ever questioned this" I was told I was overthinking the form. It is my understanding to sign in the capacity of a Notary is against the law if not notarizing the document. Does anyone have comments on this? Did I do the right thing? They said I would have to decline the job if I wouldn't complet the form as stated. NO biggie. Not alot of $$ involved. Has anyone else come up against this??? |

Thank you so much for your reference. I did decline doing the request and I don't believe I will regret doing so. They obviously insisted on it done in the capacity of a Notary and my understanding is that is not ok. I do appreciate your post on this site. You seem quite knowledgeable. Thanks |
