It was long time ago. I was very short on funds. My car broke down, and I called a signing company to cancel. They told me I needed to rent a car. I was so broke in those days, it was hard for me to think about that expense. But, it all makes sense to me now.

Of course -- rent a car. You have to take care of your clients if you want them to be loyal to you. Keep your appointments, be on time -- NO EXCUSES...

Have any of you guys had breakdowns, and had to rent a car? Any interesting stories related to this?

Yes, I've rented a car a few times when I was getting new brakes, a state vehicle inspection, and a tune up. The last time I got to drive up to borrowers' houses in a brand new 2012 Nissan!

yes, I have rented a car a couple times. I am loyal to my committments to the great compamies that I work for. Am able to rent a car for 30-35. a day. Completed my appts on time and everyone was happy. Again, charging a little more covers all the possibilities which makes it even out in the long run. Running yourself ragged doing lots of cheap appts, I may have thought differrently about it

Yes. While driving to my closing appointment on a limited access highway my vehicle developed an electrical problem. I got off the next exit, made it to a hotel when my truck died. I went into the hotel, went to the car rental desk, rented a car and made my appointment on time, drove back about five miles to the hotel, called AAA returned the rental car, rode in the tow truck to a nearby dealer, had a new alternator installed. I was lucky to have things close, but that was one of my more costly closings.

it's cheaper to take a taxi. I had to do that once- and it actually ended up being a good choice vs. driving as the signing was in financial district and the parking there is expensive anyways. So, in emergencies, it's wiser to take a taxi than rent a car- it's faster too. This might not be a good choice in a rural area though.

Seriously? Did you? I wouldn't unless they're going to foot the bill. Car rentals are expensive and do not happen that fast - it's quicker and cheaper for them to just reassign the closing.

Maybe they were joking?..:)

And to answer - I've broken down (flat tire) and just ran late, and I kept hiring party and signers in the loop on status and everyone was happy.
