Posted - 04/12/2011 : 11:54:49 PM I was at the table a couple of weeks ago. While at the table, the client had quite a few questions for his L/O. The client made several calls and left messages to return his call. After about 30 minutes and still no return call, I called the L/O and of course no return call. Another 15 minutes goes by and the client decided to just contact the lender.
A female answered and referred him to another L/O. It was explained to the client that it was not usual for anyone not to get a response from the L/O. A statement was made, "just give him the benefit of doubt, maybe he went over a cliff or something."
Well, the signing was completed and loan disbursed. An invoice was sent to the signing company with additional charges for extra time spent (2 hours) for non-response from the L/O. A few days later, the signing company calls me with notification that the L/O did in fact get into a serious vehicle accident, was in a coma at time of signing and later passed away.
After researching, the news received was in fact true. It was so tragic, this L/O was 31 years old and left a family behind. It was in the city's newspaper.
Lesson learned here, there is always a reason for everything. It touched me deeply because of the tragic way it occurred. Never again will I underestimate a non-response.
Just a heads up to all notaries, especially those with non-payment issues with Evolve IT. Bill Gimbel is using a new company name under Vista National. Anyone having non-payment issues should ask for money upfront. |
