I always park in the driveway. Around here, I rarely even see a car parked on the street. Once I was maybe 20 minutes early for an appt. and supposedly knew they were signing 'immediately upon getting home from work', so parked on the street--thinking that would let them into their driveway/garage and then I could pull in behind them. After about 15 minutes, a squad car pulled up and wanted to know what I was doing there. I don't know what might have happened because Mr. B fortunately got home then and supported my reason for being there.
Police left, I pulled into driveway behind Mr. B and followed him into the house--where Mrs. B was waiting, having arrived home much earlier (I didn't know...her car in garage...and I'd been told 'signing right after work'). She had called the police about 'a stranger parked in front of my home'. She was mortified that she'd called the police and said 'if you'd have been in the driveway, I would have known who you were.' And I said I was just trying to let them into their drive first when they got home from work. We had a good laugh, but it was an awkward start.
Point being: One size does not fit all. Different areas have different customs.

Of course, if the notary was 1 hour late to the appointment and motivated this by …. Saying that he/she looked for parking, etc; otherwise, it does not sound right.

Not rude in my neck of the woods - totally expected here - my property has 330 foot frontage on a dirt road - I'd never expect anyone to park in the road and walk up to the house - and that's how many of my signings are -
I always pull in the driveway and have never been chastised for it - something to be said for "southern hospitality" I guess..:)

I agree it’s rude to park in the driveway and it also might be illegal in some places.
Unless there is no other option, I would never park my car in the driveway.
Not worth the risk of getting a ticket or getting the car scratched by walkers.
