Posted - 01/13/2011 : 10:02:03 AM At attorney's office, standard refi, from "big name" lending institution. Borrower is secretary to the attorney. This should have been a totally routine assignment.....
Attorney, upon reviewing the docs declares that there are several instances (it turned out to be dozens!) where his client's "constitutional rights" were being "violated".
Over my objection that he needed approval - he proceeds to make literally dozens of changes to the documents. The changes are neither initialed (by the borrower) or by the attorney! I continue to advise that any changes must be approved prior to being made. He rants and raves about "constitutional rights" and is just shy of screaming at me. I am unable (with my cell phone) to reach anybody. I ask the borrower to initial EACH alteration, and to my surprise her attorney does permit her to do so. I do the notarizations.
Then the attorney asks "how soon will the check be issued"!
I probably should not have given him my reply:
"The documents are not issued by Burger King, you cannot have it your way", "what you have probably done is to cancel the transaction".
The secretary bursts into tears wailing that she needed the deal.
But there is more.....
Title and LO, upon receiving my detailed report agree that I earned my full fee. More surprisingly - I am assigned the "redo" - this time at the secretary's home a week later. Based on my highly detailed report her "rate lock" was extended and she served coffee and cookies when I arrived for the resign.

Posted - 12/16/2010 : 2:39:08 PM I had a refi...sat down and asked for ID - wife's first name on ID didn't match docs - she claimed name on docs was correct but *they* (county people) wouldn't fix the ID unless she showed them a birth certificate (naturally!!) I'm trying to get another form of ID out of her and her husband wouldn't let me talk to her - they were sitting to my right and left and he kept interrupting, calling my attention to him and away from her, and throwing car registrations at me to prove her name - which, by the way, her name wasn't on them.
There was also an older woman sitting a short distance away and it's my belief that that older woman was the true title holder and for whatever reason she had a "stand-in". Well, after about 20 minutes of this and trying to tell them what I needed or could accept and what I needed them to "show me", he got fed up with it and said "you know what I'm gonna do? I'm gonna show you - I'm showing you the door!"..and he did...I was ushered out the front door!!
We never did get anything signed. I called the hiring party and told them what happened - they told me he'd been a problem all along. I told them next time send a male notary as this guy obviously had no respect for women.
By the way...did I mention? the signer was a minister...:)

Posted - 12/16/2010 : 11:13:32 AM The other day, I notarized a signature of an elderly man. He was in sound mind, and happened to be very talkative…. . Oh well, as I wasn’t really in a hurry and could not just tell him to stop talking (I thought it’s kind of rude to do that) I listened to his entire life story. I must tell, I had a lot of fun….as he also happened to be funny! Though, it’s rare that complete strangers would open up and speak with me during notary appointments. So that one was fun.

Posted - 12/09/2010 : 5:42:04 PM Probably for me, it was when one of the signers, a bedridden woman, started screaming from the other room, "I need my diaper changed!" That was one of the worst closings I have ever experienced, and that's not even half the story.
