signed a contract for 1 year at $85.00 per month for the Internet Yellow Pages and I think it was a mistake. I've had the ad for approx. 6 weeks with not much response.

But, I think, I didn't target the people to hire my Notary service that I should have?

I am trying to market myself for Notary Public work (none loan signing) in the Riverside CA area and I realized I should have put my ad in the Yellow Page Book we get thrown on our doorstep.

My reasoning is that while, the 20, 30 40. age group doesn't use the Yellow Pages Book much, because these age group do a Google/Yahoo search for a notary public in Riverside CA.

The problem with my marketing is the age group who own: businesses, properties, living trust, properties in other states, etc are in the age group 50,60 70, and they grew up with the yellow pages and that is what they use.

The Yellow Pages, that are dropped on my doorstep, seem to have more pages than ever. This will decrease as the years go by and the Internet takes over the search by younger people.

I welcome your comments.

I wonder why I have a home phone at all? I need to cancel this phone next week and be done with it.

I have a fax line that I could hook up a phone if I had to.

Not necessarily. Depending on your service provider, a business line is priced different than residential service and may actually cost you more than the cost of a single-line ad. And, depending our your phone service provider, they may not have their own phone books at all. Where I live, at this time, my phone provider does not publish a phone book. However, the two companies that publish white pages do include residential phone numbers in those books. But, business numbers are not automatically listed by either publisher.

Our yellowbook allows business to advertise a small, name & number & address add for free, plus it puts me on the yellowbook.com website too. Call your local phone book, you might be able to get in under the wire. It may not be too late for you to get into your local yellow pages. Phone book contracts usually start between January & March so RIGHT NOW is when you would need to sign the contract. I have a business-card size ad in three different local books. The price varies based on distribution. Response is mostly from people who want to come to my location so they don't have to pay a travel fee although the ad emphasizes the travel aspect. I will say though, that when they call specifically for a traveling notary, they pay the travel fee without flinching.

I am also experimenting with an ad in the local all-classified papers that are distributed for free by the supermarket door. (Ours are called Penny Press and Thrifty Nickel.) I started about four weeks ago with an ad thatlets folks know that I visit the sick and shut-in at home, in assisted living centers, nursing homes, and correction facilities. I started out in the "Elder Care" section and now I've moved to the "Services" section. I've got a couple of calls for more information but have not booked one yet. These ads are so cheap that i'll give the test an entire quarter of advertising before I cut it off. Booking one appointment would pay for one month.
