Posted - 01/02/2022 : 1:20:18 PM I had an interesting talk with a Notary in New Jersey. He wanted to do RON work but was concerned. He said his state required saving journal records for 10 years. But, the RON eJournal companies saved it for four to seven years.
Then I mentioned that the number of years storage requirement for the conventional notary commission might be different than from the online notary commission. But, in any case, records should be saved forever if they concern real property, and the storage companies don't do this to save a few pennies.
The next concern is: how difficult is data retrieval should you be subpoenaed? Will it take 5 minutes or will you run into road blocks and pull your hair out?
I think the Notary should always have access to his own records without any passwords. Having a paper copy at home seems to make sense for online notarizations. But, few if any Notaries will go to that extent which is maximum safety not only for the notary but for clients and society.
