Another afternoon spent working on collections instead of working to grow my business. After 10 years in this business, it is still so frustrating!

If you know and trust em to pay - fine.

If you don't simply require payment in advance to your PayPal account. I receive about HALF of my payments that way.

If it's a "cold call" and distant - it's "pay up front" or they can find someone else.

If you don't have a PayPal account you are missing out on jobs that would be both accepted by you and paid in advance. Your only "out of pocket" expense is the approx. 3% fee taken out by PayPal.

I find is especially useful when someone calls and "does not like the fee" - says they will "shop around". Half an hour they call back to book the job. THAT type of situation is always pay in advance. I know they will be spending the time I am "in transit" looking for a lower price and often cancel out if they find 5$ cheaper. Once the job has been paid for - they don't do that.

Jenny -

I like you, have been in the business (for 12 years) and I got tired of collections a long time ago, so I made some changes. I don't just work for anybody that calls me. I have a set clientele, and once in a while if I feel like gambling, I accept business from a new caller. Before I sign I check them out on this site and two others. Three sites give me a pretty good sketch of the potential client. If there are a lot of bad responses, I call them back and tell them No Deal. By this time you should have established a regular set of clients to work for (hopefully). If you keep accepting work without checking our your customer, then unfortunately, you will keep getting taken advantage of.
