I have searched the forums but could not find anything on this topic. I know it's a long shot, but has anyone dealt with a disabled client with this syndrome? The client is a fully aware quadriplegic who communicates using eye blinks and a spelling board. This affliction does not even allow her the ability to sign with an X. Are there any other options for notarizing a Power of Attorney for her?

Thanks for responding Linda. I found a couple posts on another site that were very helpful, especially from Marian in CA. I was able to do the notarization today.
It was pretty amazing how well this woman could communicate with eye blinks, a slight mouth gesture and even a laugh. I used an alphabet board and had her answer multiple choice questions to determine capacity. She had minimal movement in a finger, allowing her "signature by mark" using my ink pad. It was a very slight movement, but a determined one. It took about 45 minutes for this one document signing, but I felt very good about the service I rendered.

Not sure if you in CA have this option, but here in FL our statutes allow us to do notarizations for disabled people who authorize another to sign the doc - as explained in our handbook, the designated signer becomes the hands of the disabled person. ID is required from the disabled person and the ntoarial act is directed only to the disabled person - the designated signer is their hands ONLY.
Check your handbook or with your SOS and see if CA authorizes you to do something like this.
The only other thing I can think of is emergency Court action for appointment of a Conservator.
