Has any one ever had problems with their printer, and had to have a loan package printed at a place like Staples, FedEx/Kinko's or similar printing service? Is it legal? Does it release lender's identity information to unauthorized individuals?

Windows 7 officially supported "XP" mode - for backward compatibility. I have win 7 and use XP mode for an old tape drive - same issue, the tape has no win 7 drivers.

On your win 8 - XP mode is not offered but can work. Read the link carefully and if you decide to proceed understand it's at your own risk as I have not tried XP mode with Win 8.

A viable alternative to the above is to check the users groups for your printer. Perhaps a "lesser featured" model has win 8 drivers and will give you basic functionality. That I have done in the past. If you say exactly what printer you have, I will help you hunt for a driver.

I have since resolved the problem I was facing, but now have a new one. I replaced my computer, and of course it came with Windows 8. And HP does not have the driver for my printer in Windows 8 yet. I'm hoping to find a way to work around this. Any suggestions?

I never have - thankfully.

Can you maybe save docs to a flash drive and print at FedEX/Kinkos? Then docs aren't downloaded to their computer?

Also, be prepared to pay the fee. Your profit has just been seriously cut as a result.

If you rent a computer at Kinkos/Fedex with an attached printer to access your email - there should be no problem. Of course you should not save the PDF on the public PC.
