Posted - 04/04/2013 : 2:47:43 PM Does it make sense to base payments for listings on 123notary partly on your position and partly on how much business or clicks you got? I think it does. But, my reason might not be what you are thinking.
A very successful notary I just got off the phone with someone who got tons of business from 123notary.com. He is probably #3, 4 or 5 top in the nation in terms of how much total business he gets from our site. But, he felt he was being punished for being successful after I told him that part of his fee was based on how much business my stats said he was getting. I told him that it seemed fair that he paid a small percentage for whatever work he got from us. What could be more fair than that?
New sign ups I explained that when new people sign up, we have no idea how much business they will get. It is the luck of the draw, and also depends on how much work they put into getting reviews, certifications, and writing a great notes section, among other things.
1 notary gets 90% But, consider that in Wawunga County, OH, that there is ONE notary who gets 90% of the business and TWENTY other notaries who are sharing the rest of the business. Those other notaries might not want to pay their bill because they didn't get much business. Therefore, the notary who is getting the business should pay extra. If that successful notary were to drop off the site, our other notaries would get more work (perhaps).
Super notaries are WHY people come to 123notary On the other hand, what if the REASON why people come to the site is to hire our top notch notaries ONLY. And WITHOUT those amazing notaries who "hog" most of the business to themselves by virtue of the fact that they are really good -- that fewer people would visit our site on a daily basis. With that reasoning, I should offer a lower price to these amazing notaries who are getting all the business and a higher price to the notaries who are hardly getting any business. Hmmm, that doesn't sound fair.
So, who should pay more and who should pay less? Should notaries getting tons of business pay more? Or, should they pay the same as everyone else? Should underachieving notaries who are not 123notary certified pay more because they are just taking up space? Should everyone pay just one flat rate on 123notary? Should people TAKE TURNS being #1 on 123notary? (we can't arrange that -- sorry -- although it would be fun for a while)
In my opinion, notaries who do everything right, but still get only modest amounts of business should pay less on 123notary. Those who are certified, have a few reviews, answer their phone, but only get moderate amounts of business should pay a lower price for their listing than anyone else. They attract visitors to our site which benefits all of us. Yet, they don't monopolize on the business which helps the OTHER notaries. It is a difficult equation -- think of all the possibilities!
Pay us a percentage of your sales? Maybe notaries should pay a flat fee their first year, and then pay a percentage of how much work our statistics say they are getting FROM OUR SITE. We could arrange for a formula that has a price schedule for how much you pay per job in different brackets. You could have your high or low placement for free so long as you pay for each job we calculate that you are getting.
Very interesting! What could be more fair than that? |

Posted - 04/06/2013 : 10:46:04 AM Agree with Belinda and Linda. Anybody--anybody at all--can click on a profile for lots of reasons besides looking to hire a notary. For example, I just tried to locate that notary you mentioned in Wawunga County, OH to see what wonderful things were written in the Notes section that was garnering 90% of the 'clicks'. Guess that was just a generic example as there is no Wawunga County in OH.
Point being: A simple 'click' does not a job make. Not by a long shot. A hiring party can 'click' on many profiles before deciding to call ONE notary. And even if a 'click' does generate a call to a Notary, that does NOT mean the job was accepted by that notary.
IMHO, all 'clicks' will show is the amount of traffic a site generates.
If you don't value your time and experience, nobody else will. |

Posted - 04/04/2013 : 6:56:41 PM How do you know how many actual calls a person gets from being listed on this site? What is the criteria you use to judge this?
How do you know the monetary value that represents the business one gets from being linked with this site?
Does someone clicking to see your profile determine a job is obtained?
I get business from all over, yet still have them come on here and give me a rating. Those ratings are not a determination of a job received because of this site.
I need things explained a bit more, obviously.
How are you determining what an individual notary is making from this site? Or even how many calls they actually get?
What criteria is evaluated to make a determination that a certain notary pays more and another pays less? Thanks |
