jbelmont	Posted - 03/30/2008 : 4:02:07 PM I'm adding to Ken's discussion about Florida here. My idea was to have an "affidavit of single manliness" to prove that a man is single. The man could sign and swear to such a document. What do you guys think? Is that proof enough to get the notary off the hook for notarizing a certificate with a marriage status on it?

Renee	Posted - 04/07/2008 : 02:14:17 AM I'm thinking this thread was mostly tongue-in-cheek Most states prohibit notaries from certifying capacity, and that would include marital status. Loan docs have statements of marital status, as well as statements regarding other parties having title interest all over the place. Some are notarized, others (like the 1003) are not. The 1003 does also state above the signature "under penalty of perjury" for good measure. You can't ever prove a negative - there would be no way to prove someone is not married, or not single - much to the dismay of countless women out there in the dating scene!
