Become a Vermont notary public
To become a Vermont notary public, you must be appointed by the judges of the superior court of the
county in which you reside, unless you are an ex-officio Vermont notary public. You can get a
Vermont notary application form on www.vermontjudiciary.org/eforms ( text only please )
You need to take the oath of office before a current Vermont notary public or other officer as
prescribed by law. Then, you must present the completed Vermont notary application, along with
a $20 fee, to your local county clerk.
Here is the oath of office as stated on the Vermont Secretary of State website :
You do solemnly swear (or affirm) that you will be true and faithful to the State of Vermont, and
that you will not, directly or indirectly, do any act or thing injurious to the Constitution or
Government thereof. (If an oath) So help you God. (If an affirmation) Under the pains and penalties
of perjury.
You do solemnly swear (or affirm) that you will faithfully execute the office of notary public for
the county of __________and will therein do equal right and justice to all persons, to the best of
your judgment and ability, according to law. (If an oath) So help you God (If an affirmation) Under
the pains and penalties of perjury.
