Become a Mississippi notary public
You should be a Mississippi resident for at least thirty days before submitting a Mississippi notary
application. There is a $25 application fee. You must file an application with the Mississippi
Secretary of State. You need to file a $5000 surety bond and an oath of office also with the Secretary
of State. You will need an official Mississippi notary seal showing your county of residence to affix
to documents that you notarized. Before being permitted to perform notary acts, the Secretary of State
must approve your notary application and assign you a commencement date for your Mississippi notary
commission. You must also have received your commission certificate. If you move to a different
county, you must file a change of address with the Secretary of State, Notary Public Division. Then,
you must get a new seal or stamp showing your new county of residence. To change your name on your
commission, file a name change with the Secretary of State and provide proof of the new name (marriage
license, Social Security card change, or voter registration). You will also need to obtain a new seal
or stamp and a new bond after the name change paperwork is completed. It should take less than one week
to get you notary commission.
