Georgia Notary Fees, Application, and Commission Information Georgia Notary Search Georgia Notary Fees A Notary may but does not have to charge fees for performing notarial services. A Notary shall inform the person requesting any notarial act prior to performing the service if a fee will be charged and the amount permitted by law for each act.The authorized fee is $2.00 for each notarial act. The Notary may, upon request of the person asking for notary service, charge an additional $2.00 for providing a certificate from the Clerk of Superior Court of the effectiveness of the notary commission. Become a Georgia notary public Requirements To become a Georgia notary public you must be at least eighteen years old. The term of office is four years. There is a state filing fee of $15.00. You must either be a resident of Georgia, or reside in a neighboring state and have a business or employment within the state of Georgia. Applicants must be able to read and write English. There is no bond required to become a Georgia notary public. Other laws A notary who changes their name or address should notify the appointing clerk in writing within thirty days of the change and provide the old and new names and new signature. A Georgia notary public must use a notary seal and signature to complete each notary act. A Notary is permitted to, and should refuse to witness a signature if there is any question as to the identity of the signer, the sanity of the signer, or the voluntariness of the signature. A Notary should base the identity of the signer on personal knowledge or satisfactory evidence. A notary may not notarize a document that they acted as a witness in as that constitutes being party to the document. A non-state resident may apply for a notary commission within the county that they have a place of business or employment in within the state of Georgia.
