MS Other Information of InterestTo apply to be a Mississippi notary public you must have been a Mississippi resident for at least thirty days.
The Secretary of State assigns a beginning date for your commission. Please make sure you do not complete any notary acts prior to that date. The Governor is the individual who is in charge of approving your application, and you must file your oath and bond with the governor. After you receive your commission certificate, then it's time to get your official notary seal or stamp which must include your county of residence. You must renew at least sixty days before your current commission expires. When renewing, you need to file a new application and take a new oath, and get a new bond.
