WA - Other Information of InterestCan I notarize my relative's or spouse's signature? The law requires your seal or stamp to include your last name, and at least the initials of your first and middle names. You must sign your documents the same as your seal/stamp and certificates. Acknowledged SignaturesIf a signer claims they are not capable of signing their own name for an Acknowledgment, the notary must determine if they really can not sign their name, and make a note of this in the Acknowledgment form and state that this signature by x procedure is authorized based on RCW 64.08.100. The notary must also identify the individual signing by x.
For Acknowledgments with physically able signers, the notary must identify the signer based on satisfactory evidence or based on knowing the signer.
Witnessing and Attesting to SignaturesWhen witnessing or attesting to a signature, the notary must determine if the signature is the real signature of the person present, and that the person is named in the document.
